Gundog Training

Gundog Training Classes

are being held at Glan-Y-Mynydd,
Aberbeeg, Abertillery, Gwent.

The club is running structured gundog training classes to assist members who have either already got an insight into what is involved in training a gundog or to encourage people with little or no experience to come along and have a go!

The club is fortunate to have experienced trainers who will
teach both basic and the more advanced gundog training.

Any queries on the above please contact our
Working Test secretary Lucy Jenkins on 01495 217197

....go on you know you want to have a go and your dog certainly does!!!!!!

Hilary with Benson and hedges

The following is the story of club members Hilary and Jack Tozer's two Golden Retrievers Benson & Hedges, as told by Hilary (on the left with Benson & Hedges)

Their Kennel Club Names are: -

Shardanell Bachelor Boy (Benson) who is 3 years old and

Shardanell True Magic (Hedges) who is 18 months old

Both Benson and Hedges became P.A.T. (Pets As Therapy) dogs last January and as P.A.T. dogs they visit Hospitals, Hospices, Nursing Homes, Schools, Prisons etc

And we are very proud to say that they are the first and only P.A.T. living in Pencoed.

As P.A.T. dogs they give a lot of love and comfort to many people on their visits, as these photographs show. Some older folk have to go into Nursing Homes and give their little pets to someone to look after or sometimes have them put to sleep and this is obviously very distressing to for folks, so to see and smooth and pat and talk to a pet is a great comfort to them.

PAT dogs Pat Dogs

Benson & Hedges visit our local Nursing Home at Pencoed on a regular basis and the elderly folk there really look forward to seeing them as does the Nursing staff   (and of course what Golden doesn't love to be fussed!!)

Pat Dogs

Hedges was shown at Crufts this year, unfortunately she wasn't placed in her class but it was such an honour to qualify (which she did 3 times as a puppy) and be exhibited at Crufts is such an enjoyable occasion not to be forgotten. There were 33 little girls in the same class as Hedges and they were all so beautiful.

My thanks go to Mrs Margaret Joy of "Shardanell" Kennels for allowing me to have 2 of her beautiful dogs as puppies and for all her help and guidance. Both dogs are such a pleasure to own and a pleasure to live with, Many Thanks Margaret
